Blaenau Ffestiniog

Emerging from the long tunnel into the station, the history of the slate industry of Blaenau Ffestiniog is revealed. Gloddfa Ganol mine, now closed to tourists, was once the biggest slate mine in the world. Llechwedd Slate Caverns offer a spectacular tour of the underground world of the Victorian miner and they are open year-round.

The Ffestiniog Railway starts its journey from Blaenau Ffestiniog and winds its way through 14 miles of breathtaking scenery to the busy and picturesque harbour town of Porthmadog. It connects with the Cambrian Coast line at Minffordd.

Through ticketing for Ffestiniog Railway journeys can be obtained from any UK Railway Station. Bus routes to Dolgellau and Barmouth connect at the Railway Station.
