Visit the top spots for a picnic in Wales from the Conwy Valley Line

Visit Wales recently asked their Facebook followers to name a brilliant place in Wales for a picnic. From the many responses they received we were delighted to see some were accessible from the Conwy Valley Line. What better way to spend a day than combining a scenic train journey with a delicious picnic in beautiful surroundings?

Among the top 10 brilliant places to picnic was Llandudno Beach, a ten-minute walk from Llandudno railway station, the northern terminus of the Conwy Valley Line. Llandudno Beach, also known as Llandudno North Shore Beach, is one of two award-winning beaches in Llandudno. Being one of the biggest seaside resorts in Wales, the beach, with its Victorian pier and wide promenade, meets all expectations of this popular destination town. There is plenty to see and do once you’ve finished your alfresco lunch like watching a good old-fashioned Punch and Judy show or hopping aboard a boat trip for some sightseeing of the Great Orme. There’ll be plenty of deck chairs to relax in before catching the train home. If you’re looking for a more peaceful picnic then head for the sand duned west shore beach, a mile from the station

From the beautiful and bustling Betws-y-coed station make your way to Pont y Pair car park over the Pont y Pair bridge, with spectacular views of the powerful River Llugwy flowing between the large deep-seated rocks.
